Although art is considered a personal expression of the artist, I believe that a piece of art also conveys messages that are universal. This is the result of our human condition...we all experience sorrow , loss, loneliness, happiness, hope, and other emotions that in the end unify us to be the people of the world. In this series of paintings I expressed some of the strongest emotions I had to confront in my life. When we confront strong emotions we refuge into what is familiar and comforting for our souls. I grew up in a coastal zone by the Atlantic Ocean, and the ocean gives me peace and comfort. Across history the ocean, rivers and water in general play a role and are represented in many religious or spiritual rituals of rebirth and cleansing.
